a few weeks ago i saw this random stand at a flea market. the tag read "parrot perch". hmmm... interesting! i really liked the shape of the perch and it looked sturdy, but i couldn't think of what i would do with it since i don't have a parrot! so i didn't get it.
a couple of weeks went by and i kept thinking about that darn parrot perch! at some point i realized it would make a great plant stand. since we're planning to do a major landscaping overhaul at some point, i don't want to invest a lot in planting flowers, etc. that would only be temporary. so the plant stand seemed like a perfect solution to add some color outside without committing to anything permanent. thankfully it was still there when i went back!
this was a pretty easy diy. since the stand is going to be outside, i didn't bother to scrape off rust, etc. i simply removed the nasty mat from the round table area and the wood dowel clamped down to the top perch area.
i decided on a light purple. the bright summer sun makes darker colors hard to see outside, and i wanted a nice contrast to our red brick wall where the stand will reside. i really wanted a nice light blue or green, but wasn't happy with my spray paint choices. and since lula's favorite color is purple and i've always loved purple and green (the plants) together, gum drop won!
it only took a few minutes to spray paint the stand and then let it dry in the sun.
i bought some flowers and herbs, most of which were half off. sometimes it pays to be late! i've always loved the bright lime green of sweet potato vine and was determined to have some this summer. i also bought a basil plant and parsley seeds. we'll see what happens!
i decided to go with cheap plastic containers that were gray. i love gray and purple together and didn't want the container color to clash with anything else. so i planted my flowers and herbs, set them on the stand, and that's about it! easy diy... if you can find a random parrot perch!

I love this, Sarah, and I think it looks awesome! You are so creative, my friend! Most folks would put a "parrot perch" in the trash!
