as i mentioned yesterday, i was led to simple mom's blog where i learned about naturally washing my hair and cleaning my face. i've always had problems with acne ever since i was a teenager. not major, but it's always there. so i've tried all kinds of remedies. nothing ever seems to work. or if it does work, it will last for a month and then my body adjusts and the acne returns. it's frustrating, especially considering my age!
anyway, considering none of the other cleansers out there seem to work, i figured it wouldn't hurt to try this one. guess what? i love it! now, i still have acne. it hasn't fixed that problem. i'm hoping my new diet will do that, but that's for another day. however, my face looks fresh, is soft, and when i do get zits or white heads, they heal up quickly. the oil cleanse is also a relaxing ritual i look forward to in the evening.
i use one part olive oil, one part castor oil (which you can find at the pharmacy or pharmacy section at the grocery store). simple mom gives further instructions for how to apply it and take it off and also why it works so well. not only does the oil cleanse work well for washing your face, it is also the most amazing makeup remover i've ever used. so you can save on face soap, makeup remover, and face lotion! pretty good deal!
i use this method at night. sometimes my face feels a little oily in the morning, but i just splash water on my face in the shower and my skin is perfect! like i said yesterday about the homemade shampoo, it doesn't hurt to try it out, and if you don't like it, you can always switch back. but i don't think i will! i'm enjoying the oil cleanse too much to go back, and it's so cheap! bonus!
simple mom also uses castile soap for her body. i tried this and this is the one thing i didn't like as much. my skin did feel soft right after my shower, but it didn't stay soft. i tend to have very dry skin. the only body wash i've ever found that keeps my skin soft and not as dry throughout the day is avalon organics products. their body lotion is amazing too. lasts all day.
let me know if you try any of these things out and how you like it!
