following a lead on smile and wave's instagram, i stumbled upon our lovely lives where i first read about the oil cleanse and no 'poo regimen. interested i followed her lead to simple mom and her very popular most on no shampoo where you can find all the specific details about this.
why i do this: basically it comes down to me not wanting to use chemicals on or in my body. i also hate washing my hair because it takes so long! i was already washing my hair only twice a week. so switching to baking soda and water for shampoo was no big deal for me. for some, especially those who wash your hair every day, your hair will be oily for a while as your body adjusts to the change. but don't give up! it's totally worth it! over time you'll notice your hair doesn't get as oily, even in hot weather and after working out. and you'll notice your hair is thicker and more lush. who doesn't want that?!
for me personally, i use about 1 1/2 T of baking soda mixed in 8oz. of water. i squeeze the baking soda mixture in mainly around my roots and massage it around for a minute. then rinse. it doesn't soap up or anything. it kind of feels like you're washing your hair with water! but don't worry, it's getting clean! I also use 1 T of apple cider vinegar mixed in 8oz. of water for conditioner. this doesn't seem to be doing much for me, but a friend just suggested i use honey instead of vinegar. She uses the same combination, diluting 1 T honey in 8 oz. of water. i use the vinegar on the bottom half of my hair and rinse immediately.
so if you're conscientious about chemicals and nature, try it out. if you don't like it, you can always switch back to your expensive chemical shampoo. (did that sound judgemental? sorry! it's your hair. do with it what you like!)
tomorrow i'll tell you about the oil cleanse and how i now wash my face, which i also love!
